DocBook Website

I've been using DocBook to publish my projects' documentation and it was a very nice alternative to LaTeX because all I needed was html output, though LaTeX2HTML does a good job.

I was looking, in meanwhile, for a way to organize my web page. I knew that DocBook works with XML and generates static html pages from them. Googling sent me directly to Website home page and Oliver Berger's web page. That's where I started. It took me about three days to understand what's going on and to customize the parts that I needed. And here we go.

More info on customization you can find here.

High on Fusebox

For quite a long time I did not update my page. I had an idea of making my webpage to be alive. I tried several CMS engines and most of them were impressing. Most of all I like WordPress and Drupal.

Why I decided not to use a CMS for my page? I think that making my own blog, gallery, etc. is the "Hello world" application for web programming. I had a couple attemps to add improvements by I failed quickly as I realised that it just did not scale. At that point I dropped the pursue for creating my own page. Until I learned about Fusebox and frameworks.

Actually I learned about frameworks after I had learned about Fusebox. I have downloaded the 4.1 version of Fusebox and tried to figure it out. "If you only have a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail", so I decided to use Fusebox for my web page. Let's see where it's gonna get.

Gaim plugins

Well, once I got really bored of searching nice statuses and decided to give this job to fortune. So I wrote a simple plugin for Gaim which puts a fortune in the status. Cristi Magherusan suggested that there was no plugin for displaying in Gaim the song from xmms (or, even better, Bmp) and a slightly modified fortune plugin became xmms plugin.

If have any suggestion, feel free to share them with me.

Debian HA-prosper style

If you are looking for a way to make nice presentations in LaTeX, HA-prosper is the answer. I made a Debian style for this package and you can see a screenshot of it.

IceWM Sound Mixer

Update. Now the Sound Mixer for IceWM 1.2.20 is available. There are small corrections and bugfixes.

IceWM is a fast and highly configurable window manager. But I missed the sound applet from GNOME and made an attempt to write one for IceWM. So here we go:

It modifies the volume of PCM by scrolling over it. Also it can be muted/unmuted with middle click. You can see a screenshot of the mixer.

The can also get the previous version of Sound Mixer for IceWM 1.2.15pre1.

Xilinux

Though Xilinx provides the information about the command line use of its tools, it's still very hard to use them. These tools are not quite designed for direct human interaction but more for IDE where all the jobs are done by clicking.

Initially I wanted to make a Perl script for managing projects, but I had hard time in getting aquainted with it. But, maybe, with more patience and free time, I will make it more useful.

A good start was Roger Peel's WebPACK Hints. It helped me to install the Webpack. I also used the cmd files to see what's going on at every step. I have written a small Makefile which does the job. With this Makefile I have created bit files for loading on XSA-50 board with Spartan II FPGA.
