PerlPanel Applets
PerlPanel is a simple panel for X, written in Perl (surprising, isn't it? ;-) ). Here's a screenshot of it in action, along with the Metacity window manager.
Most of its functionality is contained in so called "applets". Well, I've written two such applets, one to monitor the current CPU load, and the other to monitor the current throughput of a network interface. If you've ever used IceWM, these two applets will seem very familiar.
To install them, use the graphical configurator that comes with PerlPanel.

Vim Color Schemes
Vim is a text editor. It runs on any platform you can think of. For me, it's the best editor there is. It is not exactly "user-friendly", by today's standards, but it's more powerful than most of the other editors out there.
These are just some color schemes created by me. Feel free to use them, modify them, whatever you like. In order to use them, you have to:
- use vim. ;-)
- download the .vim files
- save them in your
$VIMRUNTIME/colors/or your$HOME/.vim/colorsdirectory. (Your particular directories may vary on other platforms). - from vim, use the
:colorschemecommand to activate a colorscheme
Anyway, without any further ado, here they are:
- darkdot.vim
- When I created it I thought it would look a bit like slashdot with a dark background, but it didn't quite end up like that. Here's a screenshot of it (this is actually the colorscheme I use on a daily basis).
- coffee.vim
- A more colorful, low contrast scheme. (screenshot)
IceWM themes
IceWM is a window manager for X11. If you don't know what that is, then you probably won't have much use in this section. Follow the above link to enlighten yourself. ;-)
The usage terms are just as for the vim colorschemes. In order to install an IceWM theme, just untar it in your $HOME/.icewm/themes/ directory.
- ice95ish v1.1
- It looks like a combination of GNOME and Windows 95. See for yourself. (here is v1.0)
- icecrack v2.1
- An older theme, based on the TigertCrack theme for Metacity (GNOME's window manager). Here's how it looks like.
