Programs
- Vim
- My favourite text editor. Runs on every platform. Makes you cool! ;) See the stuff page for some colorschemes I made.
- The GIMP
- The GNU Image Manipulation Program is the most feature-full free program for image manipulation. Version 2.x, in particular, rocks! If you've used Adobe Photoshop, GIMP will feel very familiar.
- Mozilla Firefox
- The newest incarnation of the Mozilla browsers. A lean, mean, browsing machine. It has the best standards support, that's why I use it when developing my pages. Try it, and you'll never go back.
- MPlayer
- When it comes to movie playing, there is no better. Period.
Web Sites
- Digg
- The new Slashdot. Without the dupes and slashvertisements. Power to the people. ;-)
- Kinda like digg, but not necessarily tech-oriented. They do have an awful lot of LISP stories, though. It could be because the site was made by one of Paul Graham's start-ups.
- Slashdot
- News for nerds, stuff that matters. Warning, if you are a geek, it creates addiction. ;-)
- Wikipedia
- The greatest on-line encyclopedia ever to be created. It is created as a wiki so that anyone can contribute. Reeeealy nice! ;)
- The Wayback Machine
- Have you ever encoutnered a link that just died on you? Has a site just dissappeared? Try the Wayback Machine, maybe you'll find it there. These guys archive the whole internet. (or, at least, they try).
Gurus and Mentors
These are people I wish I could have had as teachers. Respect to them.
- Paul Graham
- I've had lot's of his articles in the readings section. At some point I noticed that I liked every new article, so I figure it's easier to just link to his website, than to mirror everything. :-)
- Philip Greenspun
- I've first heard of him when our databases teacher made us read one of his SQL tutorials. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that he's also the man behind photo.net. A computer geek and a photo geek, in the same person! What a bargain! ;-)
- Joel Spolsky
