First snow

The first snow this year!

Well, it's finally happened, and today we've got the first layer of snow that didn't melt immediately after hitting the ground. The "season to be jolly" is getting closer, and closer!

In order to match the season, I've also updated the site's stylesheet. It's a lot colder now. One might say that it's cool even. ;-)

Best Operating System

Guess what's the best operating system according to Microsoft's newest search engine? What? Debian you say? Hey, as Riku Voipio said, "at least there's something we can agree on". ;-)

As it was expected, the microsofties found out about this little joke, and doctored the output of the search. Now, you can't find any Linux distro among the first 10 hits. Anyway, that was predictable, so here's a screenshot.

Cooking with Lava

Now, there's a fun thing you can't do in Romania. :-) (or in most parts of the world, for that matter, since active volcanoes are quite rare, AFAIK).

Good news

Well, since my last post, several non-neglectable Good Things(tm) happened to me. First, I was accepted for a scholarship for my diploma thesis in Switzerland. As Homer Simpson would say, "David is going to Switzerland!" :-)

The second good thing was that, apparently, my kernel patch (details here) was accepted by the framebuffer maintainer, and could go into the mainstream kernel. Now, that would be something. :-) More on this, later.

And, last but not least, I've received a mail message from a complete stranger telling me that he liked my Ice95ish theme (details about the theme here). These things can really brighten your day, y'know?

And, under the chapter "Nice work, Dave!", I've managed to lock myself out of a remote machine, by frobnicating iptables... D'oh!
